The Joy of Creative Expression!

One of the principles I often talk about in my coaching work, workshops, and speeches is “multiplying your joy.” I discovered early in life that pursuing my many and varied interests brought me much joy. However, it was when I started sharing those many interests with others that I experienced an incredible phenomenon—my joy multiplied many times—sometimes exponentially!
For example, I have processed my life experiences visually through my artwork since I was a young boy. When I was a teen, people started buying my artwork. Since that time, I have sold many drawings and paintings. Periodically, I will take a day or two to frame my artwork so I can sell it. I just finished that process this past week (as you can see in the picture). It’s always exciting to see how a painting looks when it is framed and ready to hang.
We all know how fun it is to create something beautiful—a painting, a song, a meal, a garden, etc. We also know that all such creations contain a part of us—an energetic signature if you will. In a strange way, our creative works are like children—we kind of want to hold on to them, but we know we are not meant to, because they belong elsewhere. I enjoy wondering who will love my artistic creations enough to take them home and make them a part of their lives. It’s rewarding to know that my artwork hangs on many walls bringing joy to others. I’m always pleasantly surprised when people send me photos of my artwork hanging in their homes and offices.
Pursuing my many and varied interests—over a lifetime—has brought me much joy, but the greatest joy has always come from sharing those interests with others!
